The Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) is an internationally acclaimed institution, and the only university of technology in the Western Cape. It is the largest university in the region with an enrolment of more than 30 000 students.

CPUT initiated a project to expand their chemistry, chemical engineering, maths, and science building at the Bellville campus in Cape Town. The building was extended on vacant land adjacent to the existing building. The size of the construction site measured 6 232 m².

Delta BEC was appointed to provide electrical and mechanical engineering services, including building plumbing and drainage for the building upgrade project at CPUT.

The building was divided to accommodate the Chemical Engineering Department, the Math and Physics Department, and the Chemistry Department, with the most technically challenging aspect being the significant floor area allocated to chemical laboratories.
